Bruges day trip

The best dessert we had in Europe, a raspberry cream macaron.

Poppies in the region of the Somme on our way to Belgium for a quick day trip before taking the ferry to Dover.

Bruges was an awesome city, one of my favourites in Europe. Although we only had the morning and afternoon to spend there, we saw plenty.

Even the entranceway was grand, pretty and welcoming.

We took a good half hours canal boat which was so lovely as we were propelled gently through the calm waters, seeing lovely doors, walls and houses tucked away where we would never have found them from the street.

After the lovely boat ride we wandered the city more heading into the centre.

There were some impressive and beautiful buildings in the city.

There were also lots of lovely looking chocolate shops.

Awesome lion statues guarding the main square.

The clock tower.

My favourite building however was this, although it's purpose was not guessable until I saw the sign.

You can just make it out on the wall. Saint johns hospital, and according to our ferry driver, one of the oldest in the world.

We came across a little pub just as we had almost given up on finding a non touristy place, and although the service sucked the food was excellent. We tried a tradition cheese, beer and onion soup which was wonderful. (Washed down with traditional belguim beer of course).
