Troyes - Lots of Pictures of Houses

We had decided to break our journey through the Champagne region so as not to get too tired, and Lonely Planet recommended Troyes - Plus it was pronounced 'Troy' which sealed the deal for me.

It was an interesting city with a warn torn past having been fought over in the Hundred Years War and was recaptured by Joan of Arc (she seems to pop up everywhere!). The architecture through the city was breathtaking.

A fire in 1524 burned down many of the buildings of the time, but the positive of this is the many 16th C houses that survive to this day all built at the same time and in the same distinct style.

One of my favourite things about the town were the colorful houses, instead of the usual white and brown these ones were in pinks and blues as well as the usual more neutral colors.

It was extremely hot and about lunch time at this point so we stopped for  a nice french beer and a panini from one of the narrow streets. There was a set menu for Six Euros which included a mergeuz panini, a beer and best of all a desert - Ile Flottante which is my total favourite. Meringue floating on creme anglaise and drizzled in caramel. Unfortunately we ate it too quickly to take a photo!
The picture on the right was a house I saw on our way out of the city - can you imagine having your bedroom in a tower!? Very Rapunzel-like.

The town had a few canals running through it which were very pretty although somewhat torturous as it was so hot I just wanted to jump in.
There was also a strange flying machine in the middle of one of the canals which looked like a demonic dog had been attacked by Leonardo Da Vinci.
