La-Roche-Guyon

Upon picking up the car from Paris we headed out to a village about an hour away so we would have somewhere relaxing out of the hustle and bustle of Paris for the night. Yannick had booked a Gîte for one night and it was lovely. We couldn't really work out what the main building (and tourist attraction) in the village was, but we figured it was some kind of palace, with maybe stables and the other usual rooms that come with somebody's important residence. It was expensive so we didn't go inside.

The village was very quaint , and really only had a couple of restaurants, a church, an ATM that didn't have any money in it and a boulangerie. Upon arrival we wandered the little town and took in its sights (this didn't take very long) the whole village was very pretty.

Next to our Gîte was this restaurant; the set menu was actually pretty reasonably priced, but we had our own supermarket food (including the all important orengina of course!) and didn't need the extra expense. It was a lovely building however, so I couldn't resist taking a photo of it.

My absolute favourite thing about the village was the ancient castle ruin upon the hill (this amazing view was from our Gîte window) which I thought looked just fantastic.

The vibrant sunset.

The atmosphere in the evening was just lovely, so quiet and peaceful, and the view was spectacular as the sun set behind the castle and the day disappeared (as Theoden King of Rohan would say 'behind the hills into shadow).
